Tompkins Township Battery Energy Storage System Development

Metro Consulting Associates (MCA)’s renewable energy team is providing ecological consulting, land surveying, and civil engineering services on the 100MW, four-hour (400 MWh), Tompkins Township Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development in Jackson County. With construction now underway, our team is serving as the Civil Engineer of Record and is focused on reviewing submittals and responding to contractor Requests for Information (RFI).

During the 2025 growing season, MCA’s ecological team collaborated with our GIS experts to complete an integrated ecological desktop review map, accompanied by an executive summary. The ecological team’s findings were used to route the overhead electrical Gen-Tie to avoid impacting wetlands regulated by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

MCA’s land surveying team performed ALTA/NSPS Land Title and topographic surveys. Our civil engineering team is responsible for providing concept plans, permitting support, site plans, landscape architecture, and construction drawings throughout the project. Additionally, MCA is performing overall project coordination, including oversight of the geotechnical testing subconsultant.
