Project Summary
Metro Consulting Associates (MCA) provided land surveying, site planning, and civil engineering services for Menard’s new retail location in Orion Township, Michigan.
Since the selected site was a former sand pit with roughly 110 feet of elevation difference between the highest and lowest points, earth balance was a significant challenge. Our team’s 15 years of design experience with grading challenging sites and proficiency with AutoCAD’s grading design and analysis tools became invaluable in overcoming this challenge.
MCA approached the site plan as a three-dimensional puzzle and worked with the Client to optimize earth balance and avoid the use of earth retention systems. It also provided a conceptual grading plan that prevented soils from being imported or exported from the site during construction, enhancing the project development’s time schedule and budget.
Our team took a collaborative approach, working with our longstanding Client and the General Contractor. This relationship allowed us to fine-tune things during construction, offering solutions that serve what is most important to the Client rather than providing “off-the-shelf” solutions.
