Industrial Structure Strength Testing

During this project, Metro Consulting Associates (MCA) assessed the condition and ability of a factory’s existing concrete slab to support several new large automation robots. Due to the robots’ precise flatness tolerance requirements, it was critical to evaluate the slab’s surface to ensure proper installation without excessive shimming at the robot bases.

Using LiDAR technology, our survey team conducted a slab flatness evaluation. We gathered a heat map deliverable highlighting slab elevations to identify any variations impacting installation.

MCA deployed Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment to detect anomalies within and beneath the slab and map the reinforcing steel layout. This information was used to determine optimal locations for obtaining concrete core samples.

Our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) team extracted multiple concrete cores to assess the slab’s thickness, overall condition, and comprehensive strength. Serving as the Engineer of Record, MCA provided a thorough structural evaluation of the slab.

Based on the evaluation, the slab was replaced with a new foundation designed to accommodate the robots. MCA provided construction materials testing services during the construction of the new foundation.

Let’s work together.
