Hydrant Flushing Program
City of Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan
Quick Facts
- 563 hydrants flushed over seven months
- Created a dashboard highlighting progress for the Client’s use
Project Summary
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE)’s Administrative Consent Order (ACO) required the City of Highland Park to flush hydrants regularly, ensuring the performance of proper maintenance routines to prevent future complications. As Highland Park’s Water Department Director, Metro Consulting Associates (MCA) managed the ACO programming, providing GIS, land surveying, civil engineering, permit facilitation, sub-consultant management and coordination with City staff.
Our municipal team reviewed the order’s regulations, ensuring we followed specific instructions and schedules. MCA’s GIS Analysts uploaded and analyzed project data through the Client’s dashboard. MCA created this dashboard to provide a quick summary of the project, allowing internal and external stakeholders to easily identify the exact count of completed hydrants and the progress made throughout the project.
The GIS component of this project provided critical visual assets that greatly contributed to the City’s Capital Improvement Plans (CIP). Additionally, the timely maintenance provided throughout the project and future maintenance schedules will assist the City in securing enhanced funding for future infrastructure projects.
