Project Summary
Originally constructed in 1973, the 24-inch OWC petroleum pipeline routes through rocky terrain, which contributed to integrity issues requiring 40-miles of replacement pipe. The survey team’s project office was based in Winchester, just 30 minutes east of Lexington, a mid-way point along the pipeline route.
For both phases, our survey teams established a GPS control network to maintain accurate route controls for boundary and topographic surveys, pipeline routing, and pipeline layout. Additional support services included parcel mapping, underground utility location and right-of-way land acquisition exhibits for landowner.
Metro Consulting Associates performed a hydraulic analysis to facilitate the permitting and construction of a temporary multi-barrel culvert structure across Slate Creek within the existing 100-foot-wide pipeline easement corridor.
This crossing enabled construction traffic to cross the creek during pipeline installation and, in turn, decreased construction costs and project duration. The crossing was decommissioned, removed, and the creek bed restored following project completion.
