Metro Consulting Associates to Present at the Michigan Section of the American Water Works Association (MI-AWWA) 2021 Annual Conference and Exhibits

Metro Consulting Associates (MCA), a multifaceted energy, land, and community development firm, today announced that President Damon L. Garrett, PE, and Municipal Project Manager Jarion Bradley, PE, will jointly present at the Michigan Section 83rd Annual Conference and Exhibits (MI-ACE) on Friday, September 17 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Grand Rapids, MI.

The presentation titled “Breaking the Vicious Cycle” shares strategies that address federal and state mandates for failing infrastructure and municipal realities to deliver clean, affordable water. Creating or maintaining a sustainably funded and properly staffed water system to deliver on municipal goals and compliance requirements is a complex challenge that extends beyond the water department. Delivering clean, affordable water demands interdepartmental cooperation and proactive engagement with oversight agencies, the community at large, and water customers.

“For many communities, standard revenue generation and operational models work for their water systems,” stated Garrett. “But these very same models can negatively impact disadvantaged communities, pushing them into a vicious cycle that becomes more and more difficult to break.”

“We’re eager to share real-world examples, lessons learned, and successful tactics based on our work with the City of Highland Park to help other water systems break or avoid the vicious cycle,” says Bradley.

Professional engineers or other certification-holding professionals can earn 2.2 drinking water continuing education credits (CECs) from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) for presentation attendance.
