Metro Consulting Associates (MCA), a Plymouth, Michigan based civil engineering, surveying and land planning consulting firm is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented self-starter to join our staff as Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Coordinator. This position is responsible for coordinating subsurface utility engineering projects from inception to completion in accordance to the project scope. Develops and fosters business relationships with utility companies as well as internal and external clients in order to execute the project.

Responsible for coordinating subsurface utility engineering projects from inception to completion in accordance to the project scope. Develops and fosters business relationships with utility companies as well as internal and external clients in order to execute the project.

Essential Functions:
• Execute and oversee utility relocations through design and construction in coordination with relevant agencies
• Ensures accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout the project(s) while adhering to company standards and methodologies
• Prepare cost and time estimates for utility services proposals
• Negotiates agreements, prepares contract documents, and reviews/evaluates submitted bids for various projects as assigned
• Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions
• Responsible for obtaining permits with various local, county and/or state agencies as necessary
• Recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, or performance
• Train field crew personnel on subsurface utilities
• Provide quality control and quality assurance on utility services deliverables
• Act as liaison between designers, utility agencies, construction managers, and municipalities
• Maintain good relations with utility companies and clients
• Designate all sub-surface utilities, utilizing geophysical and magnetic equipment
• Utilize ground penetrating radar to detect slab voids, steel reinforcement, structural evaluations, utilities and non-metallic/metallic objects
• Operate vacuum excavation truck
• Act as Project Manager when necessary

Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience in design, operation, and construction of subsurface utilities
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Surveying preferred
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or Surveyor in Training (SIT) certification preferred
• Extensive engineering and utility relocation experience
• Knowledge of public and private utility review and approval process
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work on several jobs simultaneously under rigid deadlines and flexible schedule
• Must be able to work constructively in diverse teams including engineers, technicians, and non-technical personnel.
