Metro Consulting Associates (MCA), a Plymouth, Michigan based civil engineering, surveying and land planning consulting firm is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented self-starter to join our staff as GIS Technician. This position is responsible for processing geospatial data in order to support a team of technical professionals providing surveying, engineering, land planning and ecological services to clients.

Duties & Responsibilities

·       Compile and process geospatial data from a variety of sources including LiDAR, public domain data warehouses, field observations, remote sensing and existing geographical data

·       Produce detailed, high quality reports in accordance with company standards and methodologies, technical guidelines, and client needs

·       Input, organize, and catalogue data in mobile LiDAR extraction software

·       Perform quality control checks on geospatial data

·       Identify issues and ensure that jobs are completed according to schedule

·       Rectify geographic projections within mobile LiDAR & GIS software

·       Work closely with engineers, surveyors, technicians, project coordinators, project managers, and support staff to process geospatial data

·       Perform regular quality assurance of data and associated graphic components

·       Communicate efficiently with project team members to meet multi-user goals

·       Perform well independently and with others in order to understand and generate special purpose maps while maintaining and updating geospatial data

·       Maintain exceptional internal and external client relations

·       All other duties as assigned



·       Associate’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education & experience

·       Internship experience preferred

·       Proficient in LiDAR, ESRI ArcGIS software, ESRI server and web based technologies

·       Proficient in mobile LiDAR extraction software

·       Strong understanding of how to extract data out of multiple formats for merging into GIS databases, such as Pipelogix, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, BS&A, and AutoCAD.

·       Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to the corporate office as well as local clients and project sites

·       Excellent concentration and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail

·       Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills

·       Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams including technical and non-technical personnel

·       Resourceful, action-oriented, creative, and analytical thinker

·       Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines as well as balance multiple projects by prioritizing effectively

·       Strong planning, organization, preparation, and execution capabilities

·       Open to new ideas, innovation, and change

·       Strong problem solving/analytical skills
