Position Description

The GIS Project Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the technical and financial aspects of the GIS department and performing high level GIS project design and analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor project budgets, staffing requirements, and schedule to ensure project plan is met.
  • Prepare technical documentation of project requirements, procedures, execution, and implementation plans.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, with a commitment to keeping projects on time and within budget.
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates for new project opportunities.
  • Develop new clients through research and communication with industry leaders, and other contacts.
  • Promote internal communication; share information and encourage dialogue within project teams and across the organization.
  • Approve work product by analyzing design, client requirements and performance standards.
  • Compile, manipulate, refine, and distribute geographic data from a variety of sources including field observations, publicly available sources, UAV, Mobile LiDAR, aerial LiDAR, as-built plans, utility maps, etc.
  • Manage project tasks related to GIS, database design and management, and data visualization.
  • Customize GIS workflow and software programs for data collection, land surveying, engineering and ecological applications.
  • Be the organizational face of GIS and expand knowledge on GIS and its capabilities throughout the company.
  • Administer a SQL based ESRI Enterprise system and ensure web services and database response time is within normal tolerance.
  • Ensure database archiving is being handled for long term clients.
  • Communicate with government and private company leaders to foster GIS development.
  • Manage field/office interaction of GIS utilization to ensure data is being collected and maintained properly within the database.
  • Design processes to enable data interpolation between AutoCAD, GIS, feature extraction, and other database centric programs.
  • Maintain GIS server technology, including ensuring successful data transfer (uploading and downloading) between server and field tablets.
  • Attended conferences and industry meetings and represent MCA’s GIS capabilities.
  • Maintain exceptional internal and external client relations.
  • Achieve performance objectives and financial metrics.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education & experience
  • Minimum five (5) years applicable experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience with project coordination, including planning, statements of work, budgets and scheduling.
  • Experience estimating project costs, and preparing large scale technical proposals
  • Ability to independently apply fundamental engineering, environmental, land planning, survey, and land management concepts
  • Local market knowledge and contacts
  • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS software, ESRI server and web GIS technologies
  • Proficient in LiDAR and other mobile mapping technologies
  • Solid understanding of geospatial concepts – projections, coordinate systems, etc.
  • Strong understanding of how to extract data out of multiple formats for merging into GIS databases, such as Pipelogix, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, BS&A, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience teaching GIS processes and technical concepts in a team environment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to the corporate office as well as local clients and project sites
  • Excellent concentration and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams including technical and non-technical personnel
